Kj Urges Precautions As Covid 19 Infectivity Rate Now Highest Since August

Health Ministry Khairy Jamaluddin has urged Malaysians to remain vigilant as the Covid-19 national infectivity rate climbed to the highest level since August.
Khairy shared on Twitter a chart showing that the Covid-19 R-naught value, or the infectivity rate, is now 1.04.
"National Rt is 1.04. Keep your masks on. Avoid crowded places. Senior citizens, especially, should get their booster jabs when it’s available to them. Practice #TRIIS," Khairy said on Twitter.

A sustained value of above 1.0 will lead to an exponential spread of the virus. A value of under 1.0 indicates the spread of the virus is slowing.
Strict Covid-19 restrictions and a mass vaccination effort have helped the country to keep the pandemic under control in recent months.
Since September, the number of Covid-19 cases has been on a decline but the recovery appeared to stall beginning this week and is now showing signs of reversing.
The last time the R-naught value was above 1.0 was on August 31. at 1.02.
The surge came just a month after the interstate travel ban was lifted.
The previous lifting of interstate travel restrictions had similarly led to a surge in Covid-19 cases.
Fully vaccinated individuals are less likely to suffer severe symptoms or even death when infected with Covid-19.

However, the efficacy will fade over time, which has prompted the Health Ministry to roll out booster shots. - Mkini
