Kelantan Fears New Covid 19 Outbreak As Interstate Travel Allowed
The Kelantan government has advised Kelantanese staying outside of the state to postpone their return to their hometowns to allow the authorities to get on top of the Covid-19 outbreak.
This was communicated by Health and Housing Committee chairperson Izani Husin to the media yesterday.
"They should hold back their trips until the Covid-19 situation in the state improves," he said, as reported by New Straits Times.
The message was also directed to outsiders who plan to travel to the state following the announcement by defence minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob, which allowed inter-district and inter-state travels with the exception of red zones.
The relaxation of the rule was effective yesterday (Dec 7).
Expressing the state government's fear of the spread of Covid-19, Izani conceded that the state government could not prevent anyone from coming to Kelantan but highlighted the high chances of travellers bringing more Covid-19 cases to the state.
"The state government is worried that those returning will bring back the Covid-19 virus when they return to Kelantan like what had occurred before.
"It is not our intention to stop them as we realise that they have not returned to their hometown for a long time and are eager to see their families."
The PAS-led state had managed to contain the Mengketil cluster but another cluster, called Huma, was detected in Pasir Puteh last week, infecting 50 people. The state reported three new cases yesterday.
Meanwhile, in Perlis, the state health department urged individuals from red zones who enter the state to immediately notify the department at 04-976 6317.
In a Facebook post, the department also urged those who return to their hometowns in the state to undergo self-quarantine at home. - Mkini
