State traffic investigation and enforcement department head Shuhaimi Jusoh said they set up roadblocks in a joint effort with the road transport department (JPJ) at 17 locations to nab errant road users, from 10pm until 3am.
He added that 2,138 vehicles, including motorcycles, cars, multi-purpose vehicles (MPV), 4-wheel drives (4WD), buses and lorries, were inspected during the operations.
“We issued 190 summonses to motorists in cars, MPVs (20), 4WDs (two) and lorries (28). Another 213 summonses were issued to motorcyclists.
“Among the offences recorded were driving without a valid driver’s licence, expired road tax, not displaying a ‘P’ sticker, displaying vehicle licence plates that are not according to specifications, having exhaust pipe modifications, and no vehicle insurance,” he said in a statement.
According to Shuhaimi, JPJ also issued 306 summonses to those who did not have a competent driving licence or a licence to transport goods, among others.
He also said 16 foreigners – comprising an Indian national, six Bangladeshis, two Indonesians, one Pakistani, and six Myanmar nationals – were arrested from five buses inspected at roadblocks in Gua Musang.
“Eleven of them had expired passports, while the other five had invalid documents. They are currently being detained at the Gua Musang police headquarters, and will be handed over to the immigration department for further investigation,” he added. - FMT
