Kelana Jaya Lrt Line Back To Normal Very Soon Says Wee
Transport minister Wee Ka Siong said he hopes to announce some good news tomorrow following further tests on the Kelana Jaya LRT line.PETALING JAYA: Transport minister Wee Ka Siong is confident that the services on the Kelana Jaya LRT line will be back to normal “very soon” after a series of encouraging tests on its automatic train control (ATC) system.
On Wednesday, rail operator Prasarana announced that services between 16 stations would be suspended for a week after it was unable to determine the root cause of the ATC system malfunction that led to disruptions.
In a statement today, Wee said Rapid Rail ran 24 sets of trains throughout the entire Kelana Jaya LRT line for six hours to ensure the stability and safety of the system before it decides on resuming full operations.
“I was briefed this morning about the continuing ATC system tests (conducted) by Rapid Rail from 11pm last night to 5am this morning. These were monitored by the Land Public Transport Agency’s (APAD) rail planning and enforcement divisions,” he said.
“I can report that all indications are that the signalling and communications within the system are ‘healthy’, and we are well on the way to full weekday operations with 38-40 trains on the Kelana Jaya Line very soon.”
Wee also said all 38 train sets on the line would be tested at five-minute intervals today, the same schedule the line runs during peak hours.
“Hopefully, I’ll be able to announce something good tomorrow,” he added.
Wee, who is the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for Ayer Hitam in the general election (GE15), said he would be splitting his time between Ayer Hitam and Kuala Lumpur to monitor the latest developments. - FMT
