Kedah Pas Confident Of Making Gains In State Assembly
Kedah PAS was confident that it would win at least 22 seats in the state legislative assembly, up from the current 15, said state PAS chief Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor.
Speaking to reporters after the launch of the Kedah PAS election machinery today, Sanusi, who is also the menteri besar, alluded that Umno was now weakened in the state.
“I am confident we can make it at least 22... This is because PAS is strong in Kedah.
“A tiger that has been shot once will be weakened... (Even after it heals), he will not be as strong if they wish to be our enemy. If they want to be our friends, they can ride on our coattails.
“If they want to fight, I think they are not as strong as before. There is a bullet in their body. Their feet are broken in three or four parts,” said Sanusi, according to Astro Awani.
There are 36 seats in the Kedah legislative assembly. PAS has 15 seats while Umno has two.
Umno failed to retain control of the Kedah government during the 2008 and 2018 elections.
Meanwhile, Sanusi said Kedah PAS had never betrayed Umno because they are still considered “friends”.
Sanusi said his decisions - including state cabinet and local government appointments - had to be made carefully to maintain ties with the state Umno leadership.
“We have been consistent and held istiqamah (consultations). For all matters concerning appointments, we will seek nominees from the state Umno leadership.
“We have never nominated someone for PAS (for a position) just because we don’t like the nominee from Umno, unlike what (Umno) did (in the Kedah Regional Development Authority).
“We will uphold our promise forever in order to unite the ummah and strengthen politics among Muslims and Malays,” he said. - Mkini
