Journalists No One In Malaysia Asking China For Jho Low Despite Earlier Reports
No one in Malaysia has actually asked China for the return of fugitive businessperson Low Taek Jho, or Jho Low, despite what was previously reported.
Journalists Tom Wright and Bradley Hope, citing a source familiar with the “inner workings of the Chinese government”, made this claim in their latest video clip discussing Low’s current situation.
According to their source, this is because he is connected to too many “powerful people” in Malaysia who have not had their relationship with him exposed yet.
“The most interesting thing he (the source) said to me was that nobody in Malaysia - not the police, the Attorney-General’s Chambers, the foreign corruption unit - is asking China for Low.
“So, despite what you hear publicly about, ‘oh we are looking for him’, this person said, nobody in Malaysia is seeking Low.
“Their explanation was that essentially, there are too many powerful people in Malaysia connected to Low that haven’t yet really been fully explored - the money they received, the relationship they have.
“And as a result, there’s nobody in Malaysia who really wants Low back. It’s too explosive, everything that he has done and knows could affect Malaysia,” Hope said in the 12-and-a-half-minute long video posted on YouTube today.
Wright added that this revelation should make Malaysians “extremely angry”.
‘Clear deal’ with Beijing
The duo had previously launched a campaign to unravel more on Low right after former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak was jailed.
Fugitive businessperson Low Taek JhoThey had previously received tip-offs that suggest Low had been laying low in China in recent years.
In today’s video, Hope claimed his source also told him that Low has a “clear deal” with Beijing for free movement and no interference from foreign countries while in China.
Wright and Hope postulated that Low got this purported deal with China due to his involvement in Najib-era belt and road projects in Malaysia.
The duo also alleged that while Low has primarily stayed within mainland China since Najib fell from power, Low’s family from Penang appears to now be based in Hong Kong.
“So, all of their assets and everything is now in Hong Kong and so they’re now Hong Kong residents. They live normal lives in Hong Kong,” Hope said.
Malaysiakini is unable to independently verify these claims.
China has repeatedly denied allegations that they were harbouring Low.
In early September, Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said the search for Low is still on and urged those with information on his whereabouts to contact the police. - Mkini
