Its chief Noor Azleen Ambros said Umno Youth was puzzled by the restlessness and hastiness displayed by PKR and Amanah leaders in Johor over the matter.
He said politicians, especially those from ruling parties, should instead focus their efforts on effectively addressing issues faced by the people, rather than power struggles.
“The restless, greedy and hasty attitude shown by PKR and Amanah leaders does not reflect any empathy for the reality of people’s lives today, who are struggling with various daily challenges and problems.
“Political leaders should be more sensitive to the needs and desires of the people, who expect leaders to think about their daily lives, instead of politicking all the time, obsessed with seats and power,” he said in a statement.
Noor Azleen also warned that the government’s performance was under close public scrutiny, saying PKR and Amanah’s eagerness to claim seats was completely out of step with sentiments on the ground.
“Johor Umno will never be trapped by this kind of restless politics,” he added.
Earlier today, Johor PKR said it had set its sights on contesting three parliamentary seats in the state at the next general election, including Muar, which is currently held by Muda’s Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.
Johor PKR chief Dr Zaliha Mustafa said the state leadership’s new lineup wanted to regain the Muar, Pagoh and Mersing parliamentary seats.
She placed special focus on Muar, saying it was a seat that PKR has a high chance of winning.
Similarly, Johor Amanah has also said it wanted to vie for 12 to 20 state seats in the next Johor state elections, due to an apparent lack of negotiations between Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional in the southern state.
BN holds 40 seats in the 56-member Johor assembly, of which Umno has 33, followed by MCA with four and MIC with three.
PH, which backs the BN state government, has 12 assemblymen, with 10 from DAP and one each from PKR and Amanah. - FMT
