Johor Cornerstone Of Stable Federal Govt Chin Tong
Johor DAP chairperson Liew Chin Tong has credited the roles of Pakatan Harapan and BN MPs in the state as a cornerstone for a united and stable federal government.
In his speech at the Johor DAP convention today, Liew noted the extra efforts required for DAP, Harapan, and Umno to accommodate each other in its new partnership post-GE15.
Liew (above) said Harapan has risen through the 2008, 2013, 2018, and 2022 general elections to become a formidable force, while Umno, after years of trying to stamp out Harapan, had accepted the fact that it is better to work together for the betterment of the people and country.
“This is where we all have a historic mission.
“We do not form the unity government simply because we want to block Perikatan Nasional from taking power.
“The unity government is here to unite former rivals to form a stable government for the many years to come so that Malaysia could rise again,” he said.
“We are united in purpose to bring forth a second take-off of the Malaysian economy so that Malaysians live a dignified and equitable economic life,” he added.
Touting the Bangsa Johor idea of unity, Liew said a larger Bangsa Malaysia identity could see the country rise as one of the great nations in the world.
Loke’s role
Looking within DAP, Liew credited party secretary-general Anthony Loke as a “strategic thinker” and a “man of action” with an important role in the days following GE15.
“I believe that one day, the pivotal role Loke played between Nov 20 and 24 last year will be recorded into our nation’s history.
“On election night, he was fully aware that the only way to set up a government with Anwar (Ibrahim) as prime minister was to form a coalition government with Umno and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS),” he recalled.
DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke“After years of engaging all sides of politics, Loke was fully aware that rivalries and enmities between DAP on the one side and Umno and GPS on the other side were very deep-seated.
“Yet he knew that the nation was at a crossroads. If an Anwar-led government was not formed, it will be a Muhyiddin-PAS government, and the nation will suffer further setbacks,” Liew said.
Five months since Anwar’s rise as prime minister, there have been continuous rumours and alleged plots to topple his administration.
Anwar previously admitted there were alleged plots to bring down the government but dismissed such attempts by “dreamers” from the opposition as being without basis.
Yesterday, opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin, who was named in the alleged plot as being PN’s prime minister candidate, shot down Anwar’s challenge for PN to submit any statutory declarations they had in Parliament and end the issue once and for all. - Mkini
