Ismail Sabri Still Undecided On Defending Umno Vice Presidency
Umno vice-president Ismail Sabri Yaakob has yet to decide whether he will defend his post in the upcoming party elections.
“I still have not decided... I am still considering the matter.
“Whether or not I have a ‘team’, it would depend on the decision (to contest),” the Bera MP was quoted telling Berita Harian in an interview.
Yesterday, Umno vice-president Mohamed Khaled Nordin confirmed he will defend his post in the party elections.
Besides Khaled, a party source told the Malay daily that another vice-president, Mahdzir Khalid, would also defend his position, while BN secretary-general Zambry Abdul Kadir will also take a shot at the vice-presidency.
‘Don’t do ROS’ job’
On another matter, Ismail Sabri said that he has never expressed interest to go for the party presidency or deputy presidency.
According to him, he respects the no-contest resolution for the party’s top two posts passed during the Umno general assembly, unless the Registrar of Societies (ROS) says otherwise.
“If the ROS thinks otherwise, we will see then,” he said.
Yesterday, it was reported that the ROS was investigating a notice of objection against the no-contest resolution filed by a Terengganu Umno member.
Ismail Sabri also slammed Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan for saying that the no-contest resolution did not breach the party’s constitution or rules.
“Do not take over (ROS’) job, as the department has just replied to the complaints sent.
“Ahmad Maslan should not say things like that and just let ROS investigate,” he said. - Mkini
