Is Umno Youth Chief Walking On Thin Ice Of Biadap Bordering Derhaka
IT SEEMS that it is worthless to make Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh realise that what he is doing has every potential to tear the country apart.
Even the final warning by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim King of Malaysia that all forms of incitement and instigation pertaining to the Allah inscription on socks controversy must stop with immediate effect seems to have little impact on the UMNO Youth head honcho who is adamant that his blanket boycott call on all 881 KK Super Mart outlets would go on.
Irony or otherwise, the Merlimau state assemblyman has every gut to perceive himself as an innocent by-stander even after Molotov cocktails had been hurled at three outlets of the 24-hour convenience store chain by supposedly arsonists or vigilantes who could have taken the law into their own hands after being swayed by the former’s inciteful rhetoric.
Yet the Melaka state EXCO in-charge of rural development, agriculture and food security is still very much in denial as evident of the manner he brushed aside PKR vice-president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad’s claim of his aggressive attitude having invited extreme behaviour which led to the petrol bomb incidents.
“I want to ask what do you mean by my aggressive actions? Has the boycott become an offence and (perceived as) an aggressive act for you?” he hit back at the Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister.
“And when you relate my actions to this petrol bomb incident, do you have proof? I also want to ask YB minister, has the investigation into the petrol bomb case been completed? Has the suspect been arrested?”
Playing dumb or otherwise, the Russia-trained medical doctor went on to challenge Nik Nazmi who is the two-term Setiawangsa MP as to how he can “simply accuse any individual” when the police probe has yet to be completed.
“Do you have evidence to state that it came from a specific individual? Or do you really like to blame others without any evidence? If there is, please state so, don’t just chit chat,” he asserted sarcastically.
Given the recalcitrant behaviour demonstrated by Dr Akmal, perhaps Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain should perhaps accord exception by hauling up Dr Akmal – without any prior lodging of police report – to facilitate investigation or at the very least, engage him a counselling session.
“If the police are not aware that in the absence of the belligerent attitude of Akmal calling for the boycott of the KK Super Mart on the socks-gate matter, there would not have been firebomb attacks in Perak, Pahang and Sarawak,” argued former Penang chief minister II Prof Ramasamy Palanisamy.
“The police cannot be naive not to see the links. While the police are super-efficient in charging the owner and supplier of KK Super Mart and those who made unsavoury comments of the socks’ incident on Facebook, they are slow in going after the vigilantes who relied on mob justice and those responsible for the fire-bomb incidents.” – Focus Malaysia
