I Returned Vellfire After Resigning As Minister Says Maszlee
Maszlee Malik says he now uses a Perodua Myvi as his official vehicle.PETALING JAYA: Maszlee Malik said a Toyota Vellfire which he was using when he was education minister under the Pakatan Harapan (PH) administration, was returned as soon as he resigned from the post in January 2020.
He said this in denying reports that he allegedly received the Vellfire as well as a sum of money from a company when he was a minister.
“I handed over the car in question on the day I resigned,” he said, Utusan Malaysia reported.
“The vehicle belongs to EMGS, an agency which was under the education ministry at the time. It is now under the ministry of higher education.
“I only used the vehicle when I was still a minister. The car was returned and continues to be used by the CEO of EMGS.”
Maszlee said he now uses a Perodua Myvi as his official vehicle.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) was recently reported to have said that it had received two complaints regarding corruption and malpractice offences involving Maszlee and that an investigation was underway.
Maszlee described the allegations as an attempt at character assassination.
“I vehemently deny this slanderous and false statement that has been fabricated,” he said in a statement on Monday.
“I see it as an attempt at character assassination and done with bad intent (mala fide) by certain parties, ahead of the Johor state elections and aimed at my commitment to education issues.”
He added that he welcomed any investigation as he had nothing to hide.
Maszlee, who is Simpang Renggam MP, is now with PKR and speculation is rife that he will stand as a candidate in the upcoming Johor polls. - FMT
