Hulu Selangor Amanah Tells Umno To Be Fair Demands One Seat
The Hulu Selangor Amanah division has stressed that fairness is pivotal in the distribution of seats for the upcoming six state elections.
This was in response to Umno’s intention to contest the Hulu Bernam and Batang Kali seats in the Hulu Selangor parliamentary constituency.
Hulu Selangor Amanah Youth chief Abdul Mun'im Roslin said Umno's argument that the two constituencies had been its traditional seats does not guarantee that BN can win them again.
"We want to remind (leaders) that seat negotiations must be based on fairness and equality in accordance with the composition of parties representing the unity government in any given parliamentary area.
"The argument that the (two) seats had been Umno's traditional seats is subjective and not a guarantee that the seats can be won.
"Instead, our capability to form a united front should be the main compass used in deciding seat distribution," he said in a statement today.
Hulu Selangor Amanah Youth chief Abdul Mun'im RoslinThe incumbent for the Hulu Bernam seat is Umno's Rosni Sohar, who is in her second term as the constituency's representative. It has also been a traditional seat for Umno.
Batang Kali was also an Umno stronghold until Bersatu unseated its candidate in the 2018 general election.
Amanah's Mohd Amran Sakir had contested the Hulu Bernam seat in the 14th general election but failed to topple Rosni.
Bearsatu won Batang Kali when it was still part of the Pakatan Harapan coalition.
Meanwhile, Mun’im said his division should not be sidelined in the seat allocation process in Hulu Selangor.
"We demand that at least one seat, either Hulu Bernam or Batang Kali, considering our track record in serving the people there and preparations that our machinery has made for the upcoming state election," he added. - Mkini
