A viking thief desperate to be a hero. A trainee valkyrie on a mission to prove herself. An ungodly case of mistaken identity.
When trainee valkyrie Lotta mistakes an unconscious viking thief, Whetstone, for a fallen hero and takes him triumphantly to Valhalla, things are definitely not turning out to be epic or glorious. Having lost a precious talking cup, Whetstone is also desperate to cover up his mistake and the two embark on a quarrelsome journey to find it and regain their heroic status. But Loki the trickster God is desperate to get his hands on the cup with a plan to unleash chaos across the nine worlds. Can Whetstone prove himself a hero after all when it matters most?
The first in a hilarious and fast-paced trilogy about how to be brave, what it means to be a hero and just how confusing the Norse Gods really are. Fully illustrated throughout, Cat Weldon's How to Be a Hero: Tales from a Terrible Viking is perfect for fans of How to Train Your Dragon and Who Let the Gods Out.
An adventure filled with a hilarious, clumsy, silly fantasy read. The story follows with Lotta who is a trainee Valkyrie is in a mission to prove that she can be a Valkyrie and Whetstone, the Viking thief who wants to prove himself that he is too can be great. Both accidentally met during Lotta on a mission and she thought Whetstone is dead when he is not dead. So, both of them embark to a journey to find the precious talking cup.
I wasn't expected anything when I decided to pick this book to read. I have no idea there will be Loki also mention about Asgard - Thor, Odin, Valkyrie and so much more. I'm so excited to read the book further. As I do some research on mythology, I came across an interview of Cat Weldon regarding the book. The author said that it is a Norse mythology. Honestly, I have zero knowledge on Norse Mythology and I might as well start to search about it more.
Anyhow, How To Be A Hero is an enjoyable read, the bickering between Whetstone and Lotta makes this book become more fun following their journey together and it is a fast-paced story also an unputdownable one. I dive into the story last night and finish this after my sahur. The moment Loki appeared in the story - well, Loki is being Loki, always the mischievous one. He cause a chaos across nine world yet the two hero are brave enough to fight through it.
Overall, I enjoy it. Love the illustration by Kate Kear, the poem and the songs makes it even more fun. I fully recommended this for you to read especially the young kids.
