How Bintulu S Worst Floods Unveil The Lion Hearted Side Of Malaysia S Most Hated Minister Dubbed Drunken Master
DETRACTORS have been made speechless with many would likely be forced to re-think/retract their condemnation of him as Madani government’s worst cabinet minister after seeing him bravely wading through Bintulu’s worst flooding.
As if heavens have eyes to turn his critics into admirers, many who had in recent times called for his termination have instead taken their hats off to him while able to understand why it is so difficult to unseat Arts, Culture and Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.
As Bintulu found itself submerged underwater in what is deemed as the town’s worst flooding, the 63-year-old six-term MP had in fact spent his first day of the Lunar New Year (Jan 29) on boat ride drenched in a wet T-shirt, shorts, slippers, life jacket and a raincoat to personally offer support and assistance to his constituents.
Whether his heroics on widely shared video clips and photographs are sheer political wayang (theatrics) or otherwise, many Bintulu folks – and fellow Sarawakians – have attested to his die-hard commitment to his Bintulu constituency with one describing the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) president as a “proactive billionaire”.
“No one can beat him in taking care of the constituency,” quipped a commenter to a X post depicting Tiong who is also the Dudong state assemblyman partaking evacuation operations of flood victims amid heavy rain. And many others seconded him.
“He did this on CNY (Chinese New Year). And no branded shirts/shoes detected. This one should be praised. Thank you minister,” praised another commenter with one described him as ‘the epitome of ministers of the people, by the people & for the people”.
Perhaps, Sarawakians know best as this Sarawak Tribune video captured the humane side of the country’s ‘most hated’ minister – wading through chest-level flood waters and spearheading evacuation operations like a professional rescuer.

And why he is such a political asset to GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak) which is a component of the Madan government although some of his haters still insist that he is “better off to remain a MP but never a minister”.
