Home Ministry Lodges Police Report Over Alleged Sabah Documentation Cards
SERDANG: The Home Ministry has lodged a police report over the Sabah Foreign Workers Data Documentation Card which allegedly contains a field stating Sabah as their nationality
Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (pic) said the police report was lodged at the Presint 7 Police Station at Putrajaya on Sunday (Nov 3) morning
"We view this matter seriously and it needs to be said that the company issuing these cards have no links to the National Registration Department or the Immigration Department
"I have also directed the director-generals from both these departments to investigate if the image that has gone viral is a fake or genuine," he told reporters after attending the Home Ministry Family Day Celebrations at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park here on Sunday
He said if the card was genuine, stern action must be taken
"We do not know the extent of the case, which is why we lodged the police report
"We hope they will investigate it to the source, if it is true or not and if there was any violation of the National Registration Act or the Immigration Act," he said
On Saturday (Nov 2), two Upko youth leaders lodged police reports over the foreign workers documentation cards as reported by several media portals
Upko Tuaran and Upko Sepanggar youth chiefs Charles Jauti and Fardy Bungga lodged the reports urging the police to investigate the images of the cards which had gone viral
Fardy was quoted as saying the images had caused a sense of uneasiness in the community there
"If the cards were real, then it must be revealed if it is legal and why they were given Sabah citizenship," he was quoted as saying.- Star
