Yesterday, FMT reported that Naveenkumar’s father, G Vijayakumaran, was concerned that he would not be able to fund the boy’s higher education despite him scoring 8As at the SPM.
Vijayakumaran, who works from home, had said his son would need his own laptop computer and money for the deposit to apply to enter varsity.
Since then, Vijayakumaran said he had received several phone calls from members of the public, with some contributing donations to ensure Naveenkumar could continue his studies.

“The contributions we’ve received is sufficient. I want to thank FMT for helping to highlight our plight and drawing the attention of Malaysians,” he said.
The 50-year-old said all cash donations would be spent on his son’s preparations for his higher education. He added that Naveenkumar might be heading to matriculation or a diploma course before going for a civil engineering degree.
“I really hope that Naveenkumar can achieve his dream of becoming a successful engineer who can then help other poor and needy children further their studies,” he said.
Vijayakumar added that he will continue repairing motorcycles from his home and will ensure his two children achieve success in their lives.
Among those who came to Naveenkumar’s aid include the MIC’s national brigade, which contributed a laptop computer for the 18-year-old’s studies.
Naveenkumar is the second child of Vijayakumaran and A Deivaletchumy. Their eldest, 20-year-old Janani, is currently studying chemical engineering at Universiti Malaysia Perlis after also scoring 8As at the SPM.
Vijayakumaran was a mechanic at a factory for 13 years before an accident left him with a broken leg. Since then, he repairs motorcycles from his home. Deivaletchumy works at a factory near their home in Taman Mas, Buntong. - FMT
