Help This Kidney Patient Find Homes For Her Cats

She cares for kittens just a few months old, while her oldest are 14 years old. Some have vision and hearing issues, but all are blossoming under her care.
However, in January, Mani was diagnosed with end-stage renal disease. She is now looking for new homes for 22 of the cats in her care.
“I rescued them because I didn’t have the heart to leave them, especially the ones with vision issues because I know no one else would take care of them,” the 46-year-old, better known as Mani, told FMT Lifestyle.
“I looked after them and did my best. But unfortunately, I cannot afford it now, although I still want to,” she added.
Since Spotify (left) and Ash have vision and hearing issues respectively, Mani will continue to care for them herself. (Moganraj Villavan @ FMT Lifestyle)Mani undergoes haemodialysis three times a week, and this treatment has eaten into her finances. Money aside, the treatments have also taken a toll on her physically.
Besides tiring easily, strenuous activities leave her with back pain. She also occasionally experiences leg cramps during and after haemodialysis.
Due to her condition, Mani can’t hold down a full-time job. Although she is paid for her stand-up comedy, the gigs are inconsistent.
“I am capable of working, but I can’t work full-time in an office. I know how to use a computer, Microsoft Word and I can work remotely from home,” she said, adding that she previously worked in the property development and legal industries.
She is now organising a comedy and storytelling show to raise funds for the RM700 she needs monthly for cat food and kitty litter.
Despite what she’s going through, Mani remains grateful for the support of kind-hearted individuals such as Malaysian-Taiwanese artist Poesy Liang who introduced her to Alexey Dorokhov, a content creator. Dorokhov has highlighted Mani’s plight on social media.
Mani rescued Mashimaro from a car park seven years ago. Just recently, he was placed in the Top 10 of a cat competition. (Moganraj Villavan @ FMT Lifestyle)Mani began opening her home – and heart – to needy felines after her cat, Boboy, died from a python attack. His passing left her devastated but birthed a determination to give other felines a second chance in life.
One of them is the handsome Mashimaro, rescued from a car park about seven years ago.
“He was very ugly then. But I looked after him and recently, we entered him in a cat competition where he ended up in the top 10,” said Mani proudly, adding that he is not up for adoption!
She said that upon learning of her diagnosis, her only worry was the fate of her cats. “I was worried about who would look after them if I died.”
The felines have a strong connection to Mani. “When they sense that I am feeling stressed, they will come near me,” she said.
It is admittedly difficult to let them go, yet Mani knows it is necessary, and hopes her cats will find loving homes. Most of the males are neutered.

Introducing the good-looking tuxedo cat to FMT Lifestyle, she said: “He’s about eight to nine months old. He’s very playful and chatty. Right now, I don’t know, he’s acting shy, but he’s actually a devil.”
Then, there is sweet, six-month old Mia. “She’s a scammer. She looks so innocent, but she can get crazy just like any other cat. Right now, she’s behaving because I promised her wet food later.”
There are also other kittens that will make ideal companions for children. “I need adopters for them. I can still take care of those who have been with me for more than five years, but these kittens need love and a new home,” she said.
“These kids are well-trained and well-fed. You can see they are loved. That’s why I am looking for those who can give the same love as I do.”
If you wish to adopt one cat (or more), contribute funds or require more information, send Mani an Instagram message. Also, follow the adventures of Mashimaro on Instagram. - FMT
