Hauled Up To Bukit Aman Hilman Confident No Offence Committed
Bersatu Youth chief Hilman Idham has pledged full cooperation with the police over their investigation into his role in a protest against the Sedition Act 1948 outside the Dang Wangi district police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur on July 29.
Speaking at the Bukit Aman police headquarters, the Gombak Setia assemblyperson also expressed confidence that he had committed no offence during the protest.
“I have informed the police that I will extend my fullest cooperation to complete this investigation.
“This is because none of our leaders committed any offence when we held the solidarity gathering to reject the Sedition Act, at a time when several of our comrades were detained in front of the Dang Wangi district police headquarters,” said Hilman (above), who was accompanied by his lawyer, Mahajoth Singh.
Malaysiakini previously reported that Hilman was being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Malaysiakini also learnt that during the protest, Hilman had alleged that the arrest of two grassroots party leaders had been ordered by Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
Two Bersatu grassroots leaders, including Port Dickson Bersatu chief Badrul Hisham Shahrin, were previously arrested after the “Turun Anwar” rally.
Inspector-General of Police Khalid Ismail later confirmed that the arrests were made to investigate an incident during the rally, in which several individuals were seen whipping a mannequin resembling Anwar.
Khalid said two men, aged 21 and 47, were detained to assist in the investigation.
Hilman expressed hope that his affairs at Bukit Aman today would proceed smoothly, adding that his leadership remained committed to continuing the struggle to topple the current government. - Mkini
