Harapan Pejuang Cooperation Guan Eng Reiterates Big Tent Approach
DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng reiterated Pakatan Harapan's "big tent" approach when asked about the coalition's potential cooperation with the yet-to-be registered Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang).
The only exception, he added, were "kleptocrats".
"The 'big tent' approach, as stated by the three leaders of the Pakatan Harapan presidential council, combines all opposition parties to form a front against Perikatan Nasional (PN)
"We have no problems with anyone that accepts the basis of our struggle except for kleptocrats," Lim (above) told journalists at the Negeri Sembilan DAP convention in Seremban today.
Asked if this meant that the court cluster (Umno leaders facing graft charges), will be excluded, Lim reiterated the Harapan presidential council's statement yesterday.
This was amid a leaked audio recording allegedly showing PKR president Anwar Ibrahim and Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi discussing how to take on the PN government.
Zahid who is facing 47 charges of criminal breach of trust, corruption and money laundering involving millions of ringgit belonging to his foundation Yayasan Akalbudi, had denied he was the person in the audio recording.
The "big tent" position marked a compromise after a long impasse where PKR was reluctant to engage with Pejuang or Warisan which have formed their own bloc in the opposition.
Conversely, PKR's Harapan allies had been worried about Anwar's overture with certain Umno leaders.
Lim said the opposition should not be distracted by the purported audio recording but instead focus on people-centric issues.
He also stressed that Harapan was not engaged in political cooperation with Umno but could still work on certain issues such as trying to push for the reconvening of Parliament.
"To solve the three crises we are facing - Covid-19, political instability due to PN's loss of majority and the economy - we can only do so by being united and not divided.
"We need to help the people to win against Covid-19 only then can we overcome the economic and political crises," Lim said. - Mkini
