Harapan Pans Moe Over Recycled Questions For Repeat Spm Candidates
The Pakatan Harapan Education Committee has questioned the Education Ministry's commitment to students' academic progress after questions issued to SPM 2021 candidates last month were recycled for those currently sitting for their examinations.
The committee, in a joint statement, noted complaints from parents unhappy that students currently sitting for their SPM examination could have an unfair advantage from prior knowledge of the questions.
"If in the past the Examination Board will prepare different questions for any ad-hoc changes to an SPM candidate's exam schedule, why not the same method be used this year?" said the committee in a statement.
The committee comprise Simpang Renggam MP Maszlee Malik, Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, Tampin MP Hasan Bahrom, Kula MP Teo Nie Ching, Sekijang MP Natrah Ismail, Bukit Mertajam MP Steven Sim, Tangga Batu MP Rusnah Aluai and Batu Gajah MP N Sivakumar.
They added that examination regulators should have been prepared with various question sets, taking into account the current pandemic situation where there would be a high chance of candidates sitting for their examination at a later date.
At the same time, they said the Examination Board must provide a public assurance that the questions used last month have remained confidential and not leaked to the repeat candidates.
Among SPM candidates eligible to sit for their examinations from April 1 to May 19 include those who had tested positive for Covid-19 and placed under quarantine, as well as those affected by floods or other approved special cases.
They were originally scheduled to sit for the exams from Feb 2 to March 29. - Mkini
