Haniff Ag Must Form Special Task Force Over Purported Leaked Judgments

An outspoken lawyer has urged Attorney-General Idrus Harun to establish a special task force to probe the alleged leaks of court judgments of former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak and his wife, Rosmah Mansor.
Mohamed Haniff Khatri Abdulla today said that such a task force - comprising of both members of the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) and police - is needed as the leaks involve possible involvement of court staff.
He also said it was time for the Palace of Justice to lodge a police report over the leaks involving the draft judgment of Najib’s RM42 million SRC International Sdn Bhd corruption case last week, which found its way to the Malaysia Today blog.
“It is important for the AG to form a special task force and get top police officers to investigate the staff members of the courts.
“The task force can get the AG to apply for a Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA) with his counterpart in the UK, and get our police to liaise with Scotland Yard to check whether Raja Petra (Kamarudin) truly got the leaked copies.
“If the investigation showed there was indeed such a leak, then the task force can get the AG to issue an Interpol red notice and initiate an extradition process to bring Raja Petra back to Malaysia to be charged,” Haniff Khatri told Malaysiakini.

Recently, the top court lodged a police report over the leak of Rosmah’s alleged written judgment in her corruption case linked to the RM1.25 billion solar hybrid energy project for 369 rural schools in Sarawak.
The purported court judgment was made available on the same blog, which is run by controversial blogger Raja Petra, who is now based in the United Kingdom (UK).
The police had since recorded statements from several court officers who have access to the draft copy of the judgment.
The Kuala Lumpur High Court is set to deliver its verdict on Rosmah’s solar graft case on Thursday.
Najib is currently serving a 12-year jail sentence at the Kajang Prison after the apex court upheld his conviction on Aug 23 over the SRC International corruption case.
Another lawyer, Syed Iskandar Syed Jaafar Al Madhzar also backed the formation of the special task force.
Attorney General Idrus HarunHowever, he said that such a team would not be necessary if the police were more serious in their investigation into Raja Petra.
The lawyer pointed out that the police already knew where the blogger lives, with previous media reports showing the Malaysian authorities had even visited him in the UK.
He was referring to 2017 media reports where the police had visited Raja Petra in the UK to record his statement over online articles claiming corruption involving a top member of the AGC.
“The police should just proceed to comply with all legal requirements by the UK authorities in order to bring back Raja Petra to Malaysia.
“If an official request from government-to-government is needed, then the Royal Malaysian Police should liaise with the home minister and the prime minister,” Syed Iskandar said. - Mkini
