Guan Eng Wants Dewan Rakyat To Censure Pas Mp Over May 13 Claim
PARLIAMENT | Lim Guan Eng (Harapan-Bagan) today urged the Dewan Rakyat to take strict action against PAS representative Ahmad Marzuk Shaary (PN-Pengkalan Chepa) for linking his anti-discrimination law proposal with the May 13 tragedy.
Citing Dewan Rakyat Standing Orders Section 36(10)(c) and Section 36(12), Lim claimed that Marzuk’s speech on Tuesday could promote feelings of hostility among the country’s multiracial community and was misleading the August house.
Lim, who is DAP chairperson, said he did not mention anything about the May 13 racial riot when making the suggestion to the National Unity Ministry.

Pengkalan Chepa MP Ahmad Marzuk Shaary“Following what happened in Sepang recently, I asked the unity minister whether there was any intention to legislate a law against racial discrimination.
“This question has been answered by the minister in a proper manner. But all of a sudden, Pengkalan Chepa in his speech made a wild accusation that my suggestion could trigger (a racial riot like) the May 13 tragedy.
“Just because I asked whether there is a plan to make an anti-racial discrimination law, which can help us to tackle racial sentiment caused by hate speech against any race.
“I do not know how (a suggestion) to prevent untoward incidents can be spun in such a way by Pengkalan Chepa, when I had not even mentioned anything about the May 13 tragedy,” Lim said.
‘Submit motion for deliberation’
Lim then urged Dewan Rakyat speaker Johari Abdul to order Marzuk to retract his remarks and issue an apology for linking Lim’s proposal to the tragedy.
“If he refuses to do so, he (Marzuk) should be referred to the Parliamentary Privileges Committee,” he said.

Dewan Rakyat speaker Johari AbdulFollowing this, Johari told Lim to submit a written motion to his office so he could properly deliberate on the matter before making a ruling.
During a Dewan Rakyat question-and-answer session on Tuesday, Lim asked National Unity Minister Aaron Ago Dagang whether Putrajaya planned to introduce a law against racial discrimination.
The former finance minister reportedly said there has been a rising number of incidents involving racial discrimination, including the latest in Sepang which saw a corn seller putting up a signboard refusing to sell his product to a certain race.
Marzuk in his speech later claimed that Lim’s suggestion could cause racial tension and possibly trigger bloodshed like what happened in the 1969 racial riot in Kuala Lumpur. - Mkini
