Grapevine Abuzz Which Ex Pm S Son Behind The Wheel Of A Red Ferrari Was Caught For Drug Possession

ONE set of rules for the ruling classes, another for the rest of the riff raff.
For a number of Malaysians, that is the perception of the state of affairs in the country. So long as a person’s “cable is strong”, he or she is free to do almost anything.
Hence the shock and surprise of those citizens when confronted with news that the son of an ex-premier has been detained by the police on the suspicion of drug possession.
It is believed that the man, in his 20s was arrested in the wee hours of Saturday (Aug 23) after being stopped by cops near the Damansara toll plaza (as reported by the Singapore Straits Times on the next day).
During police inspection, around 3gm of heroin was found. Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Shazeli Kahar has confirmed the arrest.
This salacious piece of news has obviously sent tongues wagging, not least because of the alleged offence but also the luxury vehicle the suspect was supposedly commandeering.
As sarcastically highlighted on X by self-proclaimed truth seeker FreeMalaysian (@FreeMsian), the suspect should share his secret formula for success as “should all other wealthy UMNOPutras (insinuating that the suspect is an UMNO top brass’ offspring)”.

Hinting at the disparate wealth gap, it was pointed out that the suspect was able to afford such fancy wheels despite being just 28 years old.
The comments were a mix of shock, disgust, contempt and even nonchalance, the latter an acknowledgement that this has always been the way in this fair land.
One commenter claimed it has been this way since the colonial times where “rich families” would work hand-in-hand with the occupying forces, leading to “contaminated bloodlines”.

Though the identity of the suspect has not been released, one commenter made the telling statement that this young man could afford a hyper car even though “he isn’t working”. As such, one wonders what he would be driving if he had a job, he wondered rather sarcastically.

The incident was used by another commenter to underline that ill-gotten gains should never be used to feed one’s family. Let this be a lesson to all, he counselled.

Replying directly to the poster’s query, quite a few commenters shared their two sen worth. “Scamming public funds to the max” was the way, claimed one disgusted observer.

Other commenters simply highlighted that entering the political arena in Malaysia is the fastest way to get fabulously wealthy. It is no secret at all, they chimed.

Regardless of which former PM this suspect is the scion of, the damning indictment is that this is the result of endemic corruption. It is the Malaysian electorate that have been made to look foolish as it continuously puts such characters in positions of leadership.

The fall-out from this incident remains to be seen. Will the identities of the suspect and his ex-PM father be revealed? Will it spell the end for that politician patriarch or will it just be business as usual?
An intrigued nation watches on and waits with bated breath. – Focus Malaysia
