Foreign minister Mohamad Hasan said Wisma Putra has contacted the Turkish authorities and US deputy secretary of state Christopher Landau to seek assistance in securing their release.
“We will make every effort to bring the nine activists home as soon as possible, just as we successfully secured the release of 23 Malaysians previously detained during the Global Sumud Flotilla mission,” he said during a Gaza solidarity rally at Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil, tonight.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim was also present.
Earlier, Humanitarian Care Malaysia (MyCARE) chairman Kamal Nasharuddin Mustapha said all nine vessels in the FFC x TMTG mission were seized by Israeli forces at 10.50am Malaysian time today, including one carrying the nine Malaysians.
Mohamad reaffirmed that Malaysia will continue to stand firmly in support of Palestinian freedom and statehood.
“Malaysia will persist in pressing for the immediate establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
“During the recent United Nations General Assembly, many countries expressed their support and recognition of a free Palestine.
“We are confident that an independent Palestine will soon become a reality,” he said. - FMT
