Govt Caps Guests For Weddings Under Conditional Mco At 250

COVID-19 | Weddings held in areas under the conditional movement control order (MCO) could have a maximum of 250 guests at one time, Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said today.
Ismail pointed out that while the standard operating procedures (SOP) are similar for all areas under conditional MCO, local circumstances - for example in Klang sub-district and Sabah's East Coast - could lead to a strengthening or relaxing of the conditions enforced.
"We decided today that although we usually would allow between 500 and 600 people depending on the venue, now we have set a maximum of 250 guests at one time, and it must be reported to the police.
"The police must be informed so that they can patrol to ensure SOP compliance," said Ismail in response to a question on different conditions imposed for different areas under conditional MCO.
He was speaking during the Covid-19 update press conference broadcasted on Facebook from his house where he is currently undergoing home quarantine.
Ismail said the government, after taking into consideration the number of Covid-19 cases, had decided to allow weddings to be held in the Klang sub-district but imposed further restrictions on movements in Sabah's East Coast.
"In the Klang sub-district, the situation is vastly different to Sabah... for the Klang sub-district, the focus is only on seven localities whereas in Sabah the majority of areas (under conditional MCO) are classified as red zones.
"That is why when there was a request to hold weddings in Klang, we allowed it with strict conditions, including deploying Rela (the People's Volunteer Corps) and others," he said.
Ismail added the police told him that only one wedding was held in the Klang sub-district today and there were no other functions scheduled this weekend and the next.
The defence minister's announcement yesterday of wedding functions in conditional MCO areas had raised concerns of medical experts who highlighted difficulties to practise social distancing and other Covid-19 prevention protocols.
Meanwhile, Ismail said the government had no plans to enforce a blanket ban on all contact sports activities, but noted that the Youth and Sports Ministry had taken proactive measures to postpone or cancel any ongoing events.
He added that all forms of sporting activities are also banned in areas under MCO.
Apart from Klang, the federal government had also imposed a conditional MCO in the areas classified as red zones in Sandakan, Papar, and Tuaran in Sabah, starting Oct 9, following the increase in Covid-19 cases in these areas.  - Mkini
