Good Riddance To A Bad Leader
Tajuddin Abdul Rahman at the scene of the train crash which he termed as ‘two trains kissing’ (Bernama pic)By Anthony Tan
My classmate’s wife Florence Lee was one of the passengers gravely injured in the collision between two trains along the Kelana Jaya LRT line on Monday. She had to undergo a hip surgery yesterday.
They have a son and daughter and their whole family is distraught.
Florence is a cheerful woman with a perpetual smile on her face. That smile, and the smiles of the extended family, have all but disappeared now. She could have died yesterday.
I am mentioning her by name so that at least one victim is identified, not just another nameless person among the more than 200 unnamed passengers involved.
Who will speak to Florence’s family about a just solution to her misery, their misery?
Now, I’m wary of boarding the LRT, although a LRT station is just 100m from my front gate.
The systemic problems plaguing the management of our GLCs need to be addressed urgently. So long as ineptitude is rewarded with chairmanships in GLCs, we will continue to have press conferences where a train wreck is termed “trains kissing”.
I’m therefore glad that the government has sacked the chairman of Prasarana Tajuddin Abdul Rahman. But there’s still a need for changes at the top management. - FMT
