Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli has clarified the "full picture and true story" following allegations raised during the Kedah state assembly session, where he was accused of harming the public by rejecting a project proposal in the state.
“We are all aware of the Kedah government's record - when a project fails, they will say that I'm just a spokesperson or that it’s a private project, not mine.
“Next time before calling my name for a TikTok content, make sure to check all the facts of the issue first,” he said.
According to the PKR deputy president, the PAS-helmed state government had requested a loan from the federal government to develop Phase 5 of the Kulim Hi-Tech Park (KHTP).
He said the federal government, through the Economy Ministry, had approved RM195 million for the Kedah government.
“The problem is, after approval, the project cannot proceed because the land presented during the loan application is problematic, and the purchase cannot continue.
“If there is no land, the project cannot move forward. This is a requirement; for any federal government allocation, land ownership issues must be resolved first before the allocation can be approved again,” he added.
Rafizi said the Kedah government is now claiming that it has identified new land that needs to be purchased and is demanding the ministry to approve the release of the RM195 million allocation, even though the land ownership issue has not been resolved.
“We have a lot of experience with projects that were announced first and allocations prepared, but the projects were delayed because of unresolved land ownership issues,” he added.
Rafizi pointed out that the federal government needs to borrow to provide the RM195 million and pay interest on the loan and if the project is delayed, Malaysians will have to bear the loan interest for as long as the Kedah government cannot complete the project. - Mkini
