Gerakan Leader Gives Kula 6 Months To Reunite Indira With Daughter Or Resign
A Gerakan leader has thrown down the gauntlet to Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) M Kulasegaran.
Naran Singh has challenged the DAP lawmaker to resign if he fails to resolve M Indira Gandhi’s case within the next six months.
Without mincing words, Naran told Malaysiakini that Kulasegaran (above) has failed both as a member of the government administration and as a lawyer in the long-standing efforts to reunite Indira with her daughter, Prasana Diksa, over the past 16 years.
Responding to the Ipoh Barat MP’s pledge to organise a meeting between Indira and Inspector-General of Police Khalid Ismail within the next three weeks, Naran dismissed it as “empty promises”.
“You are the deputy law minister. You should give directives. Not organise meetings.
“Kulasegaran should give directives to the IGP to solve this matter within six months. If he fails to do so, he should resign as deputy law minister,” Naran said.
He also criticised Kulasegaran and DAP for being vocal about Indira’s plight when in the opposition, yet remaining ineffective even after assuming government positions.
Further, Naran urged the veteran politician and the government to “stop being hypocrites,” pointing out that Indira’s struggle began long before Kulasegaran held ministerial office.

Gerakan member and lawyer Naran Singh“What I am going to say to Kulasegaran is: let’s not be hypocritical. In 2009, he took on the matter as a lawyer. It has already been 16 years.
“Since then, he has become the human resources minister, and now he is the deputy law minister. What has he been doing all these years? What steps has he even taken?
“If a mother has been deprived of her own child for the past 16 years, are you telling me that the law minister and deputy minister do not have any power?” he questioned.
‘Complete the mission’
Naran pressed Kulasegaran to urgently “complete his mission” as Indira’s legal representative.
“As a lawyer, if you take up the case, you should complete the mission. But now, I challenge him to only six months.
“I am challenging him as both a Gerakan leader and as a lawyer myself. Again, if within six months he cannot solve the case, then he should resign,” Naran reiterated.
On Saturday, Indira and her supporters marched from Sogo to Bukit Aman police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur to hand over Prasana’s teddy bear to the IGP in a symbolic demand for her daughter’s return.

They eventually dispersed after Kulasegaran assured them he would help Indira schedule a meeting with the IGP in the coming weeks.
Cops can’t find Riduan?
Separately, Naran criticised the police for their inability to locate Indira’s ex-husband, Riduan Abdullah, despite having extensive resources.
“Are we really trying to say that the police cannot even trace one individual who is hiding within the country? If so, then what happens if there are terrorists who need to be traced?
“Secondly, have they even made use of other resources, such as the Inland Revenue Board, the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) data, the Social Welfare Department, the army, for example?” he asked.
Last month, Riduan was reportedly found to still be in the country after using his Budi95 petrol subsidy and Rahmah Necessities Aid (Sara) allowance.

This revelation reignited public interest in the case, prompting the Indira Gandhi Action Team (Ingat) and several NGOs to co-organise the justice march on Nov 22.
Last week, the Ipoh High Court ordered police to widen their search for Riduan nationwide, rather than focusing solely on Kelantan.
In 2009, Riduan converted the couple’s three children to Islam without Indira’s consent and sought custody through the Syariah Court.
On Jan 29, 2018, the Federal Court ruled the conversions null and void and later ordered Riduan’s arrest for defying the High Court’s directive to return their youngest daughter to her mother. - Mkini
