The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has thus far not explained why they dropped the case against Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng (the then Penang Chief Minister). In his statement to the MACC, Zarul Ahmad Mohd Zulkifli left no doubts whatsoever that there was high-level and massive corruption involved in the Penang undersea tunnel project.
Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has seen the MACC investigation papers plus he has read Zarul’s statement, which Malaysia Today has published in seven instalments thus far. And today we are publishing in part 8 Zarul’s detailed statement (SEE BELOW) on the RM22 million in bribes he paid to close the MACC investigation and mark the file NFA (no further action).
The problem that Mahathir is facing is, if he allows the MACC to go for Guan Eng, then he loses the DAP seats and Pakatan Harapan is going to fall. Without DAP, Mahathir cannot hold on to power. Hence DAP has got Mahathir over a barrel and he needs to close two eyes and pretend he is not aware of this Penang undersea tunnel corruption case.
The Penang undersea tunnel corruption case not only involves RM6.3 billion. It also involves 50 acres of land along Gurney Drive with a gross development value of RM15 billion. So, while Guan Eng’s excuse is that the Penang undersea tunnel project was awarded on an open tender basis, he cannot explain why 50 acres of land along Gurney Drive with a gross development value of RM15 billion was given to Zarul as ‘part-payment’.
So, we are talking of about RM20 billion here. Not just RM6.3 billion. And Guan Eng has not explained this because there is no way he can explain it.

Hence, for the meantime, Guan Eng, Zarul and all those other people involved in the Penang undersea tunnel corruption case are safe. But then that makes all this talk about Najib Tun Razak, 1MDB, kleptocracy, etc., meaningless when this huge Penang undersea tunnel corruption case has been marked NFA, or at the very minimum KIV.
