Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Seri Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri in a statement tonight said the National Security Council (NSC) during its meeting on Oct 14 had agreed to allow Friday prayers to be conducted in mosques and surau in affected areas under the CMCO.
"Following discussions with The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (JAWI), we presented our suggestion to Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah earlier.
"The King has decreed that Friday prayers are allowed to resume with not more than 50 members of the congregation depending on the size of the mosque or surau, with a one-metre physical distancing between the congregants."
Meanwhile, only 20 people are allowed to attend each daily prayer session, depending on the size of the mosque or surau, with a one-metre physical distancing between the congregants.
"The method of selection of the congregation members will be determined by mosque kariah or Friday surau committee members in a way that is most suitable," he said, adding he hoped that JAWI would lend their cooperation to ensure that the standard operating procedures (SOP) are adhered to. - NST
