Maszlee Malik. The announcement comes two weeks after former education minister Maszlee Malik had been tipped for a role on the council.
Speculation about his possible posting arose after he wrote on Facebook that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim had told him “your sabbatical will soon be over”. Maszlee resigned as education minister in January 2020, about two years after being appointed by the Pakatan Harapan government.
The council was established in November 2010 to advise the education minister and contribute ideas as well as views to the ministry to further improve the direction of the education system.
An MP told FMT on Jan 9 that Maszlee had revived the council in 2018 for a two-year term. The Perikatan Nasional government which came to power in March 2020 did not continue with the council.
Its revival under the current unity government was announced by education minister Fadhlina Sidek in December. - FMT
