Forget Enmity Towards Each Other Dr M Urges Opposition Parties

Pejuang chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad has urged opposition parties to forget enmity towards each other in the face of the looming 15th general election (GE15).
Commenting on Perikatan Nasional chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin’s statement who wishes to refine the cooperation with Pejuang, Mahathir said the opposition bloc will be defeated if they choose not to cooperate.
“We are of the opinion that if opposition parties split, we will lose. So, we have to think if we want to forget the enmity between us like in GE14.
“At that time, Bersatu and DAP did not agree, but to defeat those who are worse, we cooperated,” he told reporters when he attended a Third Age Media Association event at KL Tower.
On Thursday, Muhyiddin expressed interest to cooperate with his former political boss’ Pejuang in the upcoming national polls.
The incumbent Pagoh MP said the cooperation could be a reality if Pejuang was serious about the matter.
However, he confirmed that Pejuang has yet to contact him to deliberate further.
Meanwhile, when asked if Mahathir felt challenged by a potential multi-cornered fight in Langkawi, the former premier said anyone is welcome to contest that seat.
“I’m still (contesting) in Langkawi but whoever who wants to come (contest), come.
“Umno used to win Langkawi up until GE14. Now in GE15, I don’t know if Umno is still influential,” he quipped.
Previously, Malaysiakini reported that the 97-year-old statesperson is expected to face a fresh face or an old candidate.
Ezam Mohd Nor, who is the former political secretary of PKR president Anwar Ibrahim, is among those mentioned to be going against Mahathir in Langkawi.
Meanwhile, Mahathir said his previous decision to withdraw the application to review the ruling awarding legal jurisdiction of Pulau Batu Puteh to Singapore was made based on advice from former attorney-general (AG) Apandi Ali’s officers.
Mahathir’s clarification comes after caretaker prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said there’s a possibility of negligence and oversight on his part causing Malaysia to lose the island to Singapore.
“That is his (Ismail Sabri's) opinion that there is negligence. But I acted after being advised by the officers and they were appointed by Apandi.” - Mkini
