Fmm Create One Standardised Sop One Recovery Phase For All Economic Sector
The Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) is urging the government to create a single standardised Covid-19 recovery standard operating procedures and recovery phase for all economic sectors.
Its president Soh Thian Lai (above) said the current four phases of Covid-19 recovery and a vast number of different SOPs are only creating confusion to the public.
“We urge the government to open up all economic sectors under one phase and do away with approval letters, using only digital vaccination certificates as criteria.
“We need the government to standardise the thousands of SOPs into a simple recovery SOP.
“We should not have so many SOPs that confuse everyone,” Soh said during the virtual National Recovery Summit today.
There are currently four phases of recovery under the National Recovery Plan (NRP) announced by the government, where different SOPs are applied, and the number of economic sectors allowed to open differ in each phase.
Employees are also currently required to have approval letters by the International Trade and Industries Ministry (Miti) to be able to physically attend to their workplace.
Soh added that employers in the manufacturing sector across the country are aggressively utilising the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme and Covid-19 Public-Private Partnership Industrial Immunisation Programme (Pikas) to vaccinate their employees in hope of speed up the reopening of the economy.
“It is globally evident that fast roll-out of vaccination is the key to reopening and revival of economies regardless of the continual fact of cases resurgence,” he said.
Several sectors, including cinema operators, have announced it would hold on before reopening their businesses despite a recent approval, pending a clear SOP from the government.
The virtual summit was jointly organised by the National Recovery Council, The Economic Club of Kuala Lumpur (ECKL) and think-tank KSI Strategic Institute for Asia Pacific.
