Flood Project Followed Regulations Says Tengku Zafrul
Tengku Zafrul Aziz has challenged Rafizi Ramli to lodge a report to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission if there was evidence of violations.KUALA LUMPUR: Procurement related to flood mitigation project which was approved after the dissolution of Parliament adhered to regulations, finance minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz said.
In a tweet, he challenged PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli to lodge a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission if the latter had evidence of any breach of regulations. He should also furnish said evidence instead of doing so after the general election.
Rafizi had claimed earlier this week that the environment and water ministry was in the process of awarding a RM2 billion project through direct negotiations to Mangkubumi Sdn Bhd which is said to be owned by a person with links to the Umno leadership.
The company is also said to have obtained the approval from Tengku Zafrul via a letter dated Oct 7, the day the 2023 budget was tabled.

Environment and water minister Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man has said he will file a defamation suit against Rafizi over the allegation that he had approved the project after the dissolution of Parliament.
Rafizi had alleged in a press conference yesterday that the Treasury secretary-general issued a letter dated Oct 7 to his ministry’s secretary-general to inform about the finance minister’s decision to award the Sungai Langat 2 flood mitigation project through direct negotiation to Mangkubumi Sdn Bhd.
“It is clear that the approval was not made by me or the ministry. The letter was issued on Oct 7, before Parliament was dissolved, and not during the period of the caretaker government,” he said in a statement posted on Facebook today.
Rafizi had failed to provide proof of his involvement in the project approval while a caretaker government was in place, Tuan Ibrahim said. He said he had explained that he had never met, consulted, or taken any action to approve the project within the period. - FMT
