Find A Friend Pas Told Following Polls Knockout
Umno’s Puad Zarkashi has told PAS’ Nik Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz that BN was indeed happy after the victory in Melaka and would not be arrogant about it.PETALING JAYA: An Umno leader has told PAS to find a political friend, not a “share partner”, following the Islamist party’s knockout with its Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition in the Melaka polls yesterday.
Umno Supreme Council member Puad Zarkashi said a “share partner” prioritised profits over friendship, alluding to PAS’ decision to side with PN in the state election.
“By right, Umno and PAS should be friends. But Muhyiddin Yassin says Bersatu had ‘profited’ by winning two seats.
“Is this an innuendo in trying to say that PAS got zero (in the partnership)?
“PAS, come back to the ummah,” he said, referring to the Arabic word for community in a Facebook post today.
PAS contested eight seats under the PN banner in the polls and lost all.
Puad was responding to PAS’ Bachok MP Nik Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz’s congratulatory note to Barisan Nasional for its landslide victory in the polls.
Nik Abduh had said: “Congrats Melaka, from Pulau Melaka. Congrats BN from your partner in Muafakat Nasional. Condolences to PAS from PAS. BN, be glad. PAS, time for true self-reflection. Increase your istiqamah (steadfastness).”
He was among the PAS leaders who wanted the party to maintain cooperation with Umno rather than PN.
Puad said BN was indeed happy with the win and would not be arrogant about it.
BN won 21 of 28 state seats, with Umno winning 18, MCA 2 and MIC 1.
Bersatu won two seats out of the 15 seats it contested.
PKR lost in all 11 constituencies, while DAP won four seats and Amanah won one, the Bukit Katil seat, which its chief minister candidate Adly Zahari defended. - FMT
