Exposure After Property In Uk Now Macc Expands In Switzerland
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today confirmed that the investigation into Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's assets has been expanded to Switzerland, following investigations in the United Kingdom (UK).
MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said his party is now working with the authorities of both countries to obtain more information.
"We are also looking at other countries such as Switzerland. (So far) we are still collaborating with the authorities in the UK, including the International Anti-Corruption Coordination Centre (IACCC), which is assisting if any assets are identified, but there are still no new developments," he said.
He said this to reporters after attending the Integrity and Leadership Day 2025 at Multimedia University, in Cyberjaya today.
The IACCC is a unit under the National Crime Agency (NCA) based in London and is responsible for coordinating international information related to corruption investigations.
In April 2024, Azam was reported to have said that Dr Mahathir was among the individuals being investigated regarding the asset declaration issue.
Following this, his two children were given notices to declare their assets under Section 36 of the MACC Act 2009 within the stipulated period.
On Jan 21, it was reported that Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir had assets worth about RM1 billion, while Mirzan Mahathir had RM246.2 million based on his asset declaration to the MACC.
Meanwhile, regarding the investigation into the counter-setting syndicate case, Azam said the process of completing the investigation papers was underway but no new arrests had been made so far.
“I have instructed officers to expedite the investigation within three weeks from now. If there is any development as to whether charges will be filed or not, I will inform you later,” he said.
On Sept 10, the MACC arrested 27 individuals including 18 enforcement agency officers on suspicion of involvement in the syndicate that allowed foreigners to enter the country without following the stipulated procedures.
According to sources, all the suspects, consisting of 19 men and eight women aged 20 to 50, were arrested in operations around Selangor, Melaka, Kuala Lumpur and Negeri Sembilan.
