BERNAMA PICKEPALA BATAS: A total of 42 National Information Dissemination Centres (Nadi) are now fully operational throughout Penang, benefiting communities as one-stop centres for internet access, digital literacy programme and skills training, particularly in rural areas.
Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) Penang director Mohd Fitri Hashim said, so far, these centres have attracted 10,827 registered members, with total participation in activities reaching 17,743 people.
"Nadi centres serve as digital community hubs that provide internet facilities and training related to information and communication technology (ICT), in tandem with efforts to narrow the digital gap, especially in rural areas.
"Various community empowerment programmes are also carried out at Nadi centres, including digital literacy, cyber safety and digital entrepreneurship training, which benefit all segments of society," he said.
He said this after the launch of the Bertam Nadi in Permatang Langsat here by Kepala Batas Umno division secretary Datuk Ahmad Darus, on behalf of Bertam assemblyman Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican.
Various programmes were also held for the public, including children, in conjunction with the launch, among them colouring, nasi kerabu cooking and cake decoration competitions, as well as the sale of various types of food and free health screening.
A lucky draw was also held, with over 30 types of prizes up for grabs, including electrical items and essential items.
Mohd Fitri also urged local communities to fully leverage the facilities provided to increase their digital skills and expand online economic opportunities.
"MCMC's commitment is to ensure no one is left behind in the country's digitalisation drive, in line with the aspirations of Malaysia Madani," he said.
He said Nadi centres set up in every state constituency in Penang are equipped with basic health screening facilities, which allow residents to carry out basic health checks, such as blood pressure, blood glucose level and body mass index (BMI).
He added that the public can get basic health screening at all Nadi centres, which have so far received a good response.
