Expose The Cartel Trying To Topple You Igp Told
Musa Hassan (left) has told Hamid Bador to name the cartel trying to topple him so that action can be taken against them.PETALING JAYA: A former top cop has asked inspector-general of police Abdul Hamid Bador to expose the “cartel” attempting to topple him so that action can be taken.
Former IGP Musa Hassan said cartels were usually individuals from outside the police force with close links to certain police officers.
“The IGP must identify them so action can be taken,” he told FMT.
However, he said it was common knowledge that factions existed within the police force, with some officers supporting certain groups to get promoted.
“But if there are cartels, then they are from outside the force with links to certain policemen,” he added.
Musa was responding to a March 17 report in Sinar Harian where Hamid revealed that a group of younger police officers had formed a cartel to dominate the force and topple him.
Hamid had said this when asked to elaborate on his earlier revelation that middle-level senior police officers were behind “a cartel of dirty cops”.
Hamid said the cartel would ensure that their collaborators got promoted so they could dominate the force and the police hierarchy in the future, making it easier for them to do their “dirty work”.
Meanwhile, Subang MP Wong Chen also said the revelation about a move to topple the top cop was “extremely worrying”, especially when the IGP had publicly commented on it.
“This has been going on for decades. We need to have a parliamentary royal commission, which means the emergency has to end and Parliament has to convene,” he told FMT.
The PKR MP added that an external royal commission would be needed to weed out the alleged cartel within the police force.
Klang MP Charles Santiago also said a major probe was needed on the matter.
“We are in a state of emergency. The fact that the IGP acknowledges that a group of people are getting together to topple him clearly shows the force has been infiltrated by officers who put their interest above that of the country,” said Santiago.
He further said that such cartels might be one reason for the continued drug trafficking and consumption in the country.
“If they have come together to topple the top cop, it means they are powerful. Are the politicians in the government doing this or are they masterminds in the underworld?” he asked.
He urged the government to react to the issue immediately as there were some officers who might be putting their personal interest before duty.
Hamid, 62 was appointed IGP on May 4, 2019 and his contract ends this May 3. - FMT
