Ex Mic Man Slams Pmx For Ushering In Deepavali Two Days Too Soon Use Open House To Make Political Statement

SUCH is the furore expressed by no-holds-barred former MIC Puchong division chairman Awtar Singh who ticked off Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for using his recent Deepavali MADANI 2025 open house as a platform “to whack past leaders for plundering money instead of spreading Deepavali cheer”.
He admonished PMX for having failed to address the significance of Deepavali nor contribution of Indian community/culture to Malaysia’s progress or “at least distribute angpow of RM200 each to some 1,000-2,000 poor guests to lighten their live hardship which then I would consider as magnanimous”.
“But you instead harped on people owning property in London or Australia, and how you wish to have them apprehended which has no relevance whatsoever to usher in the spirit of Deepavali,” the once Selangor MIC leader hit out in a TikTok video.
“By harping on corruption and the misdeeds of opposition parties, I think you’ve forgotten whether you’re standing on a political or Deepavali stage … I reckon you should remain in opposition for you’re not qualified to be a PM … I’m just speechless.”
Awtar who refused to file an appeal after being sacked by MIC criticised party president Tan Sri S.A. Vigneswaran in April 2024 also picked a bone with the Madani government over the “bizarre ushering of Deepavali two days before the actual day of the Festival of Light”.
“This is truly a case of “hari ini dalam sejarah” (literally, “today in history”),” he berated.
“Not only that it has forgotten the significance of Deepavali but there are three stupid ministers – Gobind Singh Deo (Digital Minister), Datuk Seri Ramanan Ramakrishnan (Deputy Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Deputy Minister) and Saraswathy Kandasami.

“Actually, Saraswathy by virtue of being the National Unity Deputy Minister should better understand the significance of Deepavali whereby one should stage open house on the day proper or after the actual Deepavali day but never prior to the actual date.
“I can’t comprehend as to why the trio didn’t advise PMX accordingly … actually I sympathise greatly with PMX who’s surrounded by stupid ministers which explains why the Madani government is going down the drain.”
In a subsequent post to wish Malaysian Hindus a Happy Deepavali, Awtar praised the Indian community for having wholeheartedly boycotted the Madani government for the only 200-300 Indians who showed up among the estimated 2,000 open house guests in KL Sentral were mostly “PKR/DAP party members or ministry staff”.
“This is truly embarrassing to the Madani government,” lamented the former Subang Jaya Municipal Council member.
“Moreover, I received lots of phone call from the B40 and old folks on the Deepavali eve that they’ve yet to receive their Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) financial aid which the government has promised to dish out before Deepavali.
“Why wait until last minute to belittle the Indian community in such a despisable manner? After having made the mistake of voting in the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government, I now call on Indian political parties and community at large to unite to teach PH a lesson.
“Boycotting the open house is a very successful start whereby such momentum should be kept going until the next election … Stop listening or trusting (the words of the Madani government). Vote whoever you deem fit except PKR, DAP and UMDAP (UMNO).” – Focus Malaysia
