Upko To Use Own Kinabalu Logo For State Polls Harapan Symbol In Next Ge
Pakatan Harapan component, United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (Upko) will use its own “Kinabalu” logo in the upcoming Sabah state election while maintaining use of the coalition's symbol for parliamentary contests, said its president Ewon Benedick.
Ewon (above), who is also the entrepreneur development and cooperatives minister, said the decision was made following discussions within Sabah Harapan.
“For Upko, the decision (to use our own logo) was made at the Sabah level.
“But for component parties like PKR and DAP, even though they have initial positions, they still need to refer and discuss further with their national leadership in Kuala Lumpur,” he said in Kota Kinabalu today.
Ewon said the party's decision reflects Sabah’s unique political identity and Harapan's commitment to regional autonomy.
“This is part of Malaysia’s political uniqueness - and that of Sabah - which deserves recognition, equality, and respect from all political partners, both within and outside the coalition.
“Of course, our component partners have given feedback and shared their views on our decision to use our own logo, but as of today, Upko remains firm with that stance,” he stressed.
Ewon also pointed out that there was precedent for such an arrangement.

“During the Johor state election in 2022, PKR used its own logo while Amanah and DAP used the Harapan logo. So, there’s nothing unusual about it.
“If Johor could do it that way, I don’t see why Sabah should be treated differently,” he said.
Seat talks and manifesto launch
On seat negotiations within Sabah Harapan, Ewon said the allocations have been finalised at the state level, although member parties still need to hold further discussions with their national leadership in Kuala Lumpur.
“What has been finalised will only become clearer on nomination day. Based on experience, changes can still happen - seats may be swapped or candidates changed.
“So, I’d say the final day of negotiation will really be the nomination day itself,” he quipped.

Ewon added that Sabah Harapan plans to launch its election manifesto simultaneously across the state.
“I hope we can launch it together as one Sabah Harapan,” he said. - Mkini
