Ex Cop Forms Ngo To Champion Uniformed Officers Rights
Former police officer Md Ali Amir Batcha has kickstarted a new non-governmental organisation to champion the welfare and rights of uniformed officers and personnel.
Ali, who claimed he was a victim of conspiracy, said he founded Persatuan Kebajikan Prihatin Wira Malaysia to help cases similar to his.
The NGO intends to draw greater attention to the alleged custom of scapegoating and detaining innocent officers without trial within the police force.
“Our NGO… I’ve fought for my human rights and have been a victim of draconian laws,” said the 65-year-old who was previously detained under the Emergency Ordinance.
At a press conference at Suaram’s headquarters today, he claimed that in cases involving abuse of power, the involvement of “top brass” figures often complicates such cases and ends up denying justice to victims.
Where can victims go, he asked, without an independent investigative body.
“We don’t want higher authorities or related ministries to turn a blind eye and deaf ear on this matter,” said Ali.

“For now, we are fighting for five victims. These were the people who had gone against the order of their superiors, and when the syndicate complained to their superiors, action was taken against these officers instead,” said Ali.
Among other things, the Prihatin Wira president had pushed for Section 3(1) of the Special Preventive Measures Act 1985 and the Prevention of Crime Act (Poca) to be reviewed.
Ali was detained without trial under the Emergency Ordinance at the Simpang Renggam detention centre from 1997 to 2000. He was later dismissed from the police force. - Mkini
