Emco Residents In Two Cheras Apartments Not Allowed To Leave For Vaccination
Cheras residents inside localities under the enhanced movement control order (MCO) are no longer allowed to leave the area for Covid-19 vaccination.
According to Cheras district health director Dr Noriah Hajib, this is to prevent the risk of coronavirus spreading at vaccine centres.
"After a discussion with the district health office and Kuala Lumpur health department, it was decided that public members inside enhanced MCO localities are not allowed to leave to go to vaccine centres according to their appointments.
"This is because enhanced MCO localities are red zones, and they can put other people at the vaccine centres at risk," she told Malaysiakini in a text message this evening.
However, those who miss their vaccination appointments due to being under enhanced MCO would not lose their chance of getting their Covid-19 immunisation.
According to Noriah, the district health office will assist those residents to get their appointments rescheduled to a date after the lockdown order expires.
Malaysiakini contacted Noriah to get clarification over an issue regarding standard operating procedure (SOP) at enhanced MCO localities in the district.
This came after a resident complained that she was not allowed to go for her immunisation appointment despite showing her appointment details on the MySejahtera app to security personnel on duty.
Starting today, two apartments in Cheras namely Pangsapuri Permai and Pangsapuri Penara (Block C and D) are placed under a 14-day enhanced MCO after authorities recorded sudden spikes in the number of positive cases there.
For the record, enhanced MCO SOP published by the National Security Council (NSC) does not address whether residents are allowed to leave to get their shots.
Only MCO SOP mentions vaccination. It stated that those with appointments can travel cross-district and interstate to get to their respective vaccine centres.
Malaysiakini has reached out to the NSC on this matter.
Meanwhile, it was not established whether this decision to bar residents at enhanced MCO areas from going to vaccine centres is also being applied to other districts and states.
Malaysiakini has sent a query to Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah on whether such an order is applied nationwide. - Mkini
