Education Ministry Denies Issuing Circular On Anwar S Biopic Screening
The Education Ministry has denied issuing a circular to state education departments requesting teachers and students to watch the screenings of ‘Anwar: The Untold Story’.
This after a Sabah PAS leader shared a purported copy of the letter on Facebook, and questioned its veracity.
"The Education Ministry has never issued any directive regarding the screening of the film, as made viral.
"Check the veracity of messages, and don't share if you are uncertain," the ministry said on its official Facebook today, as caption to a copy of the alleged letter was stamped fake.
The ministry's statement came as a denial to a claim by Sabah PAS Youth chief Hendri Hamsah, who earlier today shared a copy of the purported letter on his Facebook page.
Hendri has since updated his post following the ministry's clarification, saying he was "thankful" the circular was a fake.
"Otherwise, pity the kids. Malaysia Madani, anything goes," he said.
Last week, the Education Ministry came under fire for holding a screening of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's biopic for students from SMK Putrajaya Presint 5 (1), with its minister Fadhlina Sidek also reportedly in attendance.
Fadhlina's political secretary Atiqah Syairah Shaharuddin later said that the ministry did not sponsor the screening of the movie.
The screening was sponsored by well-wishers and an NGO instead, she wrote on Facebook.
‘Anwar: The Untold Story’ was produced by Zulkiflee Anwar Haque, better known as Zunar, and directed by Indonesian Viva Vesti.
Filmed prior to Anwar's ascent as prime minister, the movie tells the story of his time as deputy prime minister from 1993 until his incarceration in 1998. - Mkini
