Dream On Sanusi Tells Kedah Ph On 10 Vote Swing

Sanusi Nor said voters in Kedah want to continue supporting Perikatan Nasional.PETALING JAYA: Kedah’s caretaker menteri besar, Sanusi Nor, has scoffed at a Pakatan Harapan leader’s claim that PH and Barisan Nasional could wrest the state from Perikatan Nasional (PN) with a 10% “swing” of votes in the coming state election.
Sanusi said such a swing of votes would be difficult, especially when Malay voters wanted to continue backing PN.
“It (10% swing in votes) would be difficult, especially considering the voting patterns in Kedah. Malay voters are not easy to sway.
“It’s okay, they (PH) can continue to dream,” he said last night, according to Berita Harian.
Sanusi was commenting on Kedah PH chief Mahfuz Omar’s statement that a 10% vote swing in the coming state polls is enough to secure a PH-BN win.
Mahfuz said the total number of votes cast for BN and PH in the 2022 general election could allow the alliance to take power in Kedah.
“We need to get (back) the votes that went away from BN and PH, which is only around 6% to 7%, ” he said, adding that if the swing went up to 10%, then PH-BN could form the net state government.
Kedah has 36 seats in the state assembly. PH is expected to contest in 20 seats while BN is said to be standing in 15 seats.
The Suka Menanti seat in Alor Setar has yet to be decided. The seat was previously held by PKR’s Zamri Yusof.
The Kedah state assembly was dissolved on June 28 and elections must be held within 60 days of the dissolution. - FMT
