Dr M Looks Under Bed Behind Tv For His Billions In Latest Video
Age has not dulled Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s wit or sense of humour, as evident in a recent video where he jokingly searches for the billions he is alleged to have amassed.
The clip shows the former premier, who will turn 100 this year, looking for something in various places, including behind a TV.
Asked what he was looking for, Mahathir replied: “Duit, duit, duit (money). The RM3 billion that is with me.”
After peering behind the TV, he said: “There is nothing here. Let’s check in the bedroom.”
In the bedroom, he shakes a few suitcases and checks under the bed.
When asked how long he has been looking, Mahathir remarked: “For two years, I have not found it.”
Responding to a question if he wanted to go to Switzerland in search of the money, the nonagenarian quipped: “Let’s go to Switzerland, the bank there has the money.”
The video posted on Facebook was an obvious jibe at Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and the MACC’s investigation into his and his children’s wealth.
In May 2023, Mahathir filed a RM150 million lawsuit against Anwar over claims that the former premier had amassed wealth for personal riches while in power.
Sons also probed
MACC had also instructed Mahathir’s sons Mirzan and Mokhzani to disclose their assets dating back to 1981 when their father first became prime minister.
Mahathir’s sons Mokhzani and Mirzan (right)Mirzan was required to declare his assets as part of an investigation stemming from the Panama Papers report and his involvement in the sale and acquisition of government-linked companies.
Mokhzani, on the other hand, is under investigation for alleged violations of the MACC Act and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing, and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.
Both have complied with the order.
Mahathir was also livid with Anwar after his close confidant and former finance minister Daim Zainuddin was hauled to court.
Following Daim’s death in November last year, the former premier said: “I am sad beyond words. He should be lauded for his contributions to the struggle (for race, country, religion).”
"But at the end of his life, he was condemned for no reason. No reason! Save for vengeance,” he added.
