Don T Shame People On Social Media Lodge Reports Says Bukit Aman
Bukit Aman said sensitive issues, especially those involving dignity, need to be handled through appropriate channels like the police first.KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman has expressed concern that netizens would rather shame people on social media than lodge reports.
According to Bukit Aman’s integrity and standards compliance department (JIPS) director Azri Ahmad, sharing such issues on social media before an investigation can be carried out made netizens cast judgement without looking at the actual facts of the case.
“I am of the view that sensitive issues, especially those involving dignity, need to be handled through appropriate channels by making reports to the relevant parties,” he told Bernama.
He said professional action should be taken so that the victims involved are not exposed to criticism and negative comments that can affect their emotions.
Azri Ahmad. This will also prevent members of the community making false assumptions about the parties involved.
“I can see that the public prefer to express their dissatisfaction regarding certain issues by sharing them on social media such as WhatsApp and Facebook. But they refuse to act properly (by lodging a report),” he said.
Azri said they should lodge complaints to the authorities first so that proper action can be taken.
On another matter, he said 1,571 police personnel faced disciplinary action last year.
Azri said among the offences committed were not declaring assets, visiting entertainment centres, marrying without approval from superiors and refusing to accept reports.
He said that those involved in integrity-related offences were investigated under the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) Regulations 1993.
In addition, some policemen were found involved in criminal offences, with 23 nabbed for committing crimes, 18 for corruption, 84 for drugs and 48 for shariah-related criminal offences.
“To strengthen the integrity of police personnel, we will focus on six elements this year — strengthening governance/policing, complaint management, intelligence/operations, investigations, compliance and religious counselling.” - FMT
