Dirtier They Get In Tg Piai
THEY were dirty as the Opposition before GE14, and now get even filthier after forming the Federal Government. They've got everything to offer the Tg Piai's constituents and refrain from slanders and lies against Barisan Nasional.
At the BN camp, effort and focus remain finding what are the grievous of the rakyat, promoting Muafakat Nasional and leveraging on Pakatan Harapan's blunders.
Yes, blunders are one too many but having strong finance and all mercenaries should limit PH opposition-style campaign. Just make promises again, tell them that they will build bridges where no rivers flow.
Afraid of a losing streak - after Cameron Highlands, Semenyih and Rantau - the PH propaganda team is resorting to bad, really bad and immoral tactics. A month before nomination (Nov 12), money was seen flowing. Some ministers and civil agents were already flushing the government cards in Tg Piai,
Many folks get a false sense of security by talking about the total money raised instead of focusing on cash on hand. This is PH mistake, a bad campaign to start with. With all the undelivered GE14 promises, the voters are more aware that political bribery is at its pinnacle under PH.
For the voters, just grab the gifts. Whom to vote doesn't matter. This is where PH will falter, especially if they have spent money early on things that don't communicate with voters. It was produced on emotion. Spending money based on emotion is the definition of a bad campaign habit, and PH has it.
Much to the astonishment of the public, PH leaders who used to accused BN of using money politics to garner votes, are now subscribing to it, publicly. The MACC which once deplored the approach has turned into a kitten, and so as the Election Commission which scours only BN-dominated areas to find mistakes.
Such a scenario in Tg Piai. Goodies are thrown everywhere. Even their candidate was given the honor to announce the re-opening of Kukup Jetty and went further with police reports accusing MCA candidate Wee Jeck Seng on corruption.
As for BN, their campaign is defined on small budget. However, the big impact is spreading rumors that they are on the right track to win handsomely. Prophecies are that Jeck Seng, who is more popular after the 2018 defeat, is actually the right person to represent Tg Piai Parliamentary constituent.
Campaigns staffers work hard, and so do the candidate and campaign manager. BN treats the staff professionally, creating an environment which doesn't exist in PH command center. They are highly on morality. They are cognizant of the culture of campaign, making sure each and every worker feels appreciated.
I managed to creep into PH camp after the nomination day, and it was filled with tense and anxiety. Not much smile but the stress look at their staff reflected how they are aware of BN good chance of winning the by-election. Should they falter, Putrajaya will need tangible answer!
My hope is that for BN camp to concentrate more of the voters, not the candidate alone. Have you ever talked with a candidate and the entire time he or she was looking over their shoulder for the next person to talk to? My take is that, this is a bad personal trait, not just a bad campaign habit. If you are a candidate, lock in on the voter and focus on them. If you are staff, make sure you are giving your candidate the space he or she needs to connect with voters.
Campaigns can easily become fixated on things they cannot control and cannot fix. For example, many campaigns will worry about what the opponent is or is not doing, or whether or not there will be an independent expenditure in the race. These are all things that campaigns cannot control.
For BN, if it remembers the campaign plan and focus on all the things it can control, victory is not far away.
While PH is coming dirtier in many aspects, BN needs to have political composure and the underdogs tag.
