Digital Revolution Needed In Education System Says Tok Mat

Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan said the quality of teaching must be improved immediately.PETALING JAYA: The education ministry has been asked to take the current push for digital learning as an opportunity to usher in a digital revolution of the education sector.
Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan, often referred to as Tok Mat, said the emphasis on home learning brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic has shown that teachers and students alike are ill-prepared for virtual classes.
“The education ministry has to use this opportunity to reimagine and re-engineer the national education sector. This is the time for us to start a digital revolution in our national education on a large scale,” he said in a statement.
He said digital learning would be a part of education even after the pandemic abates and will become “the new education paradigm in Malaysia”.
He said the quality of teaching must be improved immediately. Teachers and students must be encouraged to be creative in order to find effective methods of digital education.
He said this must be done to ensure virtual mediums do not simply become modes for distributing work, as engagement and interaction are important facets of learning.
Additionally, he said the challenges facing parents must be addressed so they can provide their children with a good education and future prospects.
As such, he called for the swift distribution of electronic devices and free internet so that students are not left behind.
“The value of education is priceless. Ignorance is the price to pay should we fail to fulfil this duty.
“We must not put a stop to teaching and learning, regardless of the trials faced. The government, educators, students and parents must continue performing their duties – a noble duty of national importance.” - FMT
