Dengue On The Rise In Klang

Four new dengue hotspots have been declared in Klang, Selangor, bringing the total to five.
Klang Royal City Council’s (MBDK) Health Department direc­­­­tor Azmi Muji said the latest hotspots are Section 32 (Jalan Sungai Congkak 32/51A to 32/51F), Kam­pung Pendamar, Taman Sri Anda­las and Klang Villa Apartments.
A dengue hotspot refers to a specific area experiencing persistent dengue transmission for more than 30 days, indicating a localised epidemic or high-risk zone for the disease.
Meanwhile, an eight-year-old pupil from Kampung Delek Kiri, which was the first area to be declared a hotspot, was also hospitalised for dengue on April 5.
This is despite vector-control measures by the Klang District Health Department and MBDK’s Health Department.
Azmi said Kampung Delek Kiri had 10 confirmed cases in 50 days up to April 8 and is considerd a high-risk area.
“We are worried about the new infections,” he said.
MBDK had declared Kampung Delek Kiri as a hotspot area until April 18.
Through social media, Klang’s District Health Department, Vector Control Unit (Public Health) has advised community leaders, village heads, Rukun Tetangga and residents associations to conduct gotong-royong sessions to clean up their neighbourhoods and eliminate any stagnant water where Aedes mosquitoes could breed.
Several clusters where a fast rate of dengue transmission had been observed include Taman Teluk Gedung Indah Jalan Sungai Samagagah (eight cases), Bandar Bota­nic Jalan Jenaris (six), Perdana Villa Apartments (four) and Taman Klang Utama (seven).
As of April 6, Klang district has recorded 1,473 dengue cases with one fatality this year. - FMT
