Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani (left) said those going to police stations to lodge reports should dress courteously but Musa Hassan felt that was not necessary.PETALING JAYA: Former inspector-general of police Musa Hassan has disagreed with current IGP Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani over how people should dress when they go to police stations to make reports.
“It is the duty of the police to receive such reports in whatever situation,” Musa said in a Twitter posting about the current controversy over a dress code for visitors to police stations.
Musa said no one would go to the police station unless they have to, as they need assistance. “It is not only in cases of life and death, thus it does not matter how one should dress. It is the duty of the police to receive such reports in whatever situation,” he tweeted.
His comment was a response to Acryl Sani who said any dress code enforced is at the discretion of heads of departments and that flexibility on attire may be granted in cases of emergencies.
Earlier this week a woman was reportedly barred entry to Kajang police headquarters although she was wearing Bermuda-length shorts that covered her knees.
She was only allowed to enter the police station after her sister brought her a pair of trousers. She had been there to make a report about a car accident.
In his response earlier today, Acryl Sani had said that those going to a police station should keep the fifth principle of the Rukun Negara in mind and dress courteously as well as mind their morals.
He said the only exceptions are when it involves a “life or death” emergency.
“Government offices are where people do business. In an emergency, we can relax the directive. We have to see what kind of emergency it is,” he said. - FMT
